Kelp Pressing and Matillaja Poppies...

I have been trying to do some large scale kelp pressings.  This can be a little tough because it is hard to find large specimens that aren't ravaged by the time they wash ashore.  I think this one turned out to be quite striking and luckily someone else agreed.  It is going off to a very good home tomorrow .

This is the story of a little shop on a little island 26 miles across the sea. (Actually only about 22, but why get caught up in the details?) We are located in the heart of El Encanto, a lovely, leafy courtyard steps from Avalon Harbor. Inspired by El Encanto's history as a marketplace for artisans, Golden State was born. We celebrate fine craft and it's process, showcasing locally made gifts by numerous Avalon artists. If you haven't had the good fortune of visiting yourself, I hope to convey the essence of the shop and Santa Catalina Island itself through images, updates on new works, artists interviews, island happenings, and local lore.
